Saving Spade

Aboriginal Trooper Lewis Dunbar should be elated. World War One is over and he’s to be sent home after two years of desert warfare…but he’s not! His war-weary horse must stay and Lewis cannot allow their life-long bond to be broken. 

Aboriginal Trooper Lewis Dunbar of the Australian 2nd Light Horse Brigade should be elated. WWI, the war said to end all wars, is finally over and he is being sent home after two years of battle in the Arabian deserts…but he’s not!

“The horses are staying!” came the order.

He cannot abandon Spade, the horse he reared, drove cattle with, and, with boundless trust and loyalty, faced death in many battles. He will desert the army and together they will ride off into the Sinai desert to find a new life.

But his plan goes astray when a mute Bedouin girl, A’isha, steals Spade. With Lewis chasing on foot, so begins the perilous journey of two nomads from different continents into the unforgiving heat and sparseness of the desert and his struggles to protect his horse, not only from A’isha, but from displaced tribes, gangs and the Djinn spirits of the desert. 

The winds of the Sinai whip up a gripping tale that stir the dormant spirits within.
