About

Chris Marshall was born in London in 1947. He was educated first at Kilburn Grammar School, from 1958 to 1965, and then gained a BSc in Biochemistry from St Andrews University, Scotland, in 1969. He was employed first by Brooke Bond Liebig and then by Charing Cross Hospital Medical School, where he obtained a PhD for research into the gastric hormone Cholecystokinin (again from St Andrews University) in 1979. It was immediately after he had gained the PhD that the germ of the idea for his first book, given the title ‘Starstruck’ took hold, and the first version was completed in 1980–1981. Not finding a publisher, he put it away for twenty-five years but suddenly rediscovered it in 2015. Extensively rewritten, as technology had advanced so much (no mobile phone in original version) and now twice the original length, ‘When Evil Calls’ has now been published, however this has been substantially revised and is now looking for a traditional publisher. The ‘Starseeker’ runs to five novels.

After the ‘Starseeker series came a Sci-Fi novel ‘Quadseers’ the first four words of which were given in a creative writing course while on a cruise. Fancying entering a short story prize competition resulted in two of the stories contained within ‘Diversion and other Tales’, (no success for a prize tho). These stories have been enjoyed by all those who have read them. With comments along the lines of ‘I didn’t see that coming’ among his favourites. As ideas flow more stories will be forthcoming.

With two children from his first marriage, he has four grandchildren. With his second wife, Kathleen, he has two stepchildren and five step-grandchildren. Shortly after he gained the PhD, Chris’s career took a sharp turn into computer programming, which covered many computer languages, some of which have now gone out of use. He worked for Charing Cross Hospital, then Vamp Health, next the Royal London Dental Institute, and finally for CeLSIUS (Centre for Longitudinal Study Information & User Support), first at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and later at University College London. Now retired, Chris enjoys reading, singing (he was forty-five years with the Royal Choral Society but now sings locally), gardening – he has two allotments which take up a lot of time -, and when opportunity arises, travelling.

Quadseers

Quadseers was born on a cruise to Iceland in 2019. Short of ideas the author attended a Creative Writing Course where one exercise was to begin a story with the words ‘Sitting on the bus’. From th...
